Network virtualization describes hardware, software, and network functionality combined into a single virtual network. Virtual networking is the foundation for cloud architecture and applications, since it enables the ability to access, connect, secure, and modify cloud resources. Let’s get some knowledge about virtual networking

ABC Engineering college, XYZ

Suppose the college (ABC Engineering college, XYZ) has 3 instances of Civil, CSE and IT department. And it’s decided to merge CSE into IT department and you have been assigned this task. Then what will you do? What will be your approach and how would you manage all these things. For this college will have to create virtual network and do private subnetting.

What is virtual network?

Network virtualisation is the process of combining hardware and software network resources and network functionality into a single software-based administrative entity. In simple words, this process separates the management plane from the control plane by combining hardware (such as switches and routers) and software network resources into a single software-based administrative entity called a virtual network.


We have to use private subnet. Private subnetting is the subnetting that does not have a route to internet and is used for services needed by the developer or in any intra organisation activities. So it has important role in this task.

Route table

Importance of route table is to manage and store the information of communication activities. It determines where data packets will be travelling over an Internet Protocol (IP) network.


While doing virtual networking, the question arises about security. We have to create another layer of NACL (Network Access Control List). It provides security for your virtual network acting as a firewall for our subnets. So we will create an NACL associated with our subnets. The major advantage of NACL is the freedom of creating our own rules.

  1. Remote work capabilities: Virtual networking allows people to access their networks from any part of the world.
  2. Digital security: By using virtual networking, you can make your networks more secure through the application of features, like NACL encryption and domain segments.
  3. Flexibility and scalability: Because it’s virtual and not much hardware is required to create a virtual network, it is easier to scale at a lower cost of ownership. Scaling takes a few tweaks to the software and configurations but does not necessarily require a lot of equipments.
  4. Cost savings: By reducing hardware, businesses benefit by saving money on hardware costs and maintenance.
  5. Productivity: Because networks can be configured more quickly.
